Wine racking, wine clubs, wine snobs and more from the blogs
The Stimsons blog has posted a few pretty pictures from Casa Rodena Winery in New Mexico.
Adam McHugh is happy he and his wife have become members of the Rusack Winery wine club after spending several months on the waiting list.
Mat Garretson owns a small winery together with his wife. While he loves what he does, there is that bane of his vintner existence, wine snobs:
You’ve probably come across the type…the kind that, if given half a chance, drones on and on about such subjects as what’s better, left- or right-bank 1991 Bordeaux, the ageability of Chilean Chardonnay, etc., etc. The type of guy (they’re almost always guys) who probably got the shit kicked out of him every week in high school for being such a wonk.
Well, he’s figured out a way to handle them.
The Wine Rabbi visits Vincent Arroyo Winery in Calistoga, California.
Vincent Arroyo is a tiny winery with an annual case production of just over 8,000 a year. In fact, it’s so small that while some of the wines they make are available for purchase, much of their business is in selling Cabernet Sauvignon and Petite Sirah futures, meaning that you buy a case while the wine is still aging in the barrel. As you can imagine, you literally won’t find anything they sell for sale anywhere else.
He finds reasons to like it.
They’ve had their twice-yearly racking day at Lost Canyon Winery:
Racking is when we take the wine out of the barrels, put the wine in a tank, wash the barrels and then put the wine back in the barrels.
Finally, Michael Haig at Whitestone Winery provides the winery animal picture of the day.
